Founded in 1961 as a museum of literature, a decade later it expanded its activities to become a theatre museum. In 1992 it opened the Mak Gallery as its exhibition space. The Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a home to about one hundred literary and theatre collections with over 20,000 documents. It has the workrooms of Petar Kočić and Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević and documents on the works of a number of Bosnian and Herzegovinian writers.
