The play is based on a text by Florian Zeller and directed by Dino Mustafić.

The cast includes Tatjana Šojić, Enes Kozličić, Elma Juković, and Mehmed Porča.

Florian Zeller, one of the most prominent contemporary playwrights, brings a deeply moving story about a mother  a woman torn between love, doubt, and fear.

Through an innovative dramaturgical approach, the production opens questions of life’s anxieties, burdens, and frustrations to which we are all exposed. At the same time, it tells the story of a heroine who stands as a paradigm of the modern woman. Her family was once the center of her world, but then the “empty nest” syndrome sets in, and she is left alone.

Is her love too overwhelming?
Is the betrayal real, or merely imagined?
Where does motherhood end, and where does the fragile boundary of personal identity begin?

The performance takes the audience into an inner world where nothing is quite as it seems, and every emotion resonates louder than silence.

“This was a compelling artistic endeavor, and throughout rehearsals we discovered why Zeller is one of the most frequently performed playwrights in the world today. He addresses themes that touch our intimacy and explores universal issues from a contemporary perspective in an intriguing literary way,” said Dino Mustafić.

“Our goal is for the theatre to speak openly about socially taboo topics such as suicide, divorce, mental illness, the position of women within the family, a child’s perspective on a turbulent world, aging, and death,” the director added.

The play The Mother is part of Zeller’s theatrical trilogy The Son, The Mother, and The Father. All three productions are directed by Dino Mustafić. The complete trilogy explores family relationships, frequent illusions and mistakes, the burden of guilt, fear, alienation, longing for closeness, care, and love.

The dramaturgy is by Stela Mišković, set and costume design by Adisa Vatreš Selimović, and music by Irena Popović Dragović.

“Society functions in a state of perfect, hypocritical discord. Until we reach the phenomenon of the Mother. Both biologically and socially, this phenomenon resists all conventions, restraints, emotional limitations, and molds. A mother cannot be contained, framed, or tamed. From the moment she becomes one, she belongs to her child unconditionally and completely,” said dramaturg Stela Mišković.
