Bukovik & Crepoljsko

North from Sarajevo there are is vaste plateau stretching in the large area to Olovo and down the valley of river Krivaja to Zavidovići, on north-east to Han-Pijesak and on north-west to Vareš and the southern border of the area is Sarajevo with Miljacka and Sarajevsko polje.

Average altitude it the plateau is from 800 – 1000 m a.s.l. and there are plenty hills with local mark as mountains like Tvrtkovac (1304 m a.s.l.), Tajan (1278 m a.s.l.), Lipnica (1459 m a.s.l.), Karasnovina (1472 m a.s.l.), Zvijezda (1349 m a.s.l.). Here we mention one smaller part, Sarajevo part of Ozren which includes peaks Bukovik (1534 m a.s.l.) and Crepoljsko (1524 m a.s.l.).

The whole area is under flower mountain pastures and significant areas covered with coniferous and partialy mixed forest. This area was a popular picnic area from ancient times for people of Sarajevo, starting from mountanieers, rock climbers, spaleologists and hunters. In that whole area there are numerous paths and hiking trails, some of them marked but majority of them non-marked.


This whole area is generally rich with small and big brooks and streams on unpolluted water. On the these areas is monument of nature Skakavac, 98 m high.

The area is rich with significant nature values, unique phenomenon of eco-climcate, water regime, high biological diversity, endemic and relict species of plants, mushrooms and animals. It is also rich with extremely valuable and rare birds.

The care for waterfall preservation if waterfall Skakavac as hydrological monument started in 1954 when it was placed under State protection.

Regarding the mounteneering houses, after the war under the top of Bukovik, at Čavljak and on the northern slopes two new mountaineering homes have been built. Homes are opened at weekends, on holidays and upon agreement. In the area from Barice to Čavljak there are several restaurants.

Over Bukovik and Crepoljsko there are transverse hiking trails, and due to larger number of macadam and forest roads, this area is suitable for mount-bike riding.
